Summary of World Canals
Conference 2005
Click here to read all about it » With great
pleasure, high ambitions and enthusiasm over a number of
years, we drafted and planned the World Canals Conference
2005. Our hopes were to offer our friends and fellow canal
enthusiasts as well as our professional colleagues a
rewarding conference and numerous memorable occasions on and
around our grand, old canals.
Our theme – Six canals in six days – took us on a journey
right across Sweden, from Göteborg/Trollhättan in the west
to our capital Stockholm on the east coast. Trips by boat
allowed us to present the majority of our magnificent canals.
During this journey, You were able to study how differently
our canals have been preserved and they exhibited their
heritage and the developed tourism in the surrounding areas.
You have seen waterfalls, modern commercial vessels
specially built for the Trollhätte kanal locks, aqueducts,
lock-keeper and bridgemaster cottages, dry docks,
Stockholm's archipelago, narrow boats from UK and much, much
more.
Some
may think that we were somewhat exuberant and over ambitious
in the planning of this six-day trip. However, we believe
and hope that this journey has given our guests something
extra.
Soon we will give You a summary at this website - by words
and pictures from the whole of the conference week.
Thank You for visiting us and see You soon again, The
Association of Sweden's Canals through its president
